Hurricane Ivan

My new house.... about 2 weeks before the storm

This picture is a view looking down the street upon returning home after the storm

I climbed up on top of the debris to get a better look. Not really smart on my part as there were a lot of snakes lurking in that debris pile.

The water & debris pushed my garage door in and flooded my garage

This is a picture looking into my garage through a window. If you look against the back wall... that is a full size refrigerator that was completey knocked down from the force of the water.

The tractor we rented to remove the debris

This is my backyard before the storm... after we boarded up

The debris was just as bad in the backyards... this is my backyard

My backyard after the tractor cleanup

This is my kitchen. We had already removed the carpet which is why you see the cement floors. I like this picture because it shows the water line.... that's how much water my house took in.

This was my office. As you can see the carpet is wet...what you can't tell from the pictue is how bad it smelled from sitting in salt water. It was extremely heavy and we had to roll it up and chain it to the tractor to pull out of the hosue.

Boat dock on my front lawn.... I think this was the Jenkin's dock.

This was the neighbor's boat that was not secured in any way. It took out that front pillar... which is steel on the inside.

The critters were everywhere. This fresh water snapping turtle tried to come in and make himself at home. We rescued him and returned him to the fresh water creek.

This was about 2 weeks after the storm.... the street has been cleaned out and you can see the guys from Gulf Power out on the highway trying to restore power.

Piles of debris lined highway 98 for about 6 months

Matt & Lynn's house. We believe a boat took out that wall as Lynn found life jackets upstairs in the girls bedroom. A water pipe also burst and was still flooding the house a day after the storm. Matt was on active duty in the ME and Lynn had evacuated out of State so we turned off the water main to stop the flooding.

Mike & Diane's house. This was taken about 2 or 3 weeks after the storm so a lot of the sand from the garage had already been removed. The whole back porch and foundation pilings were destroyed.

Let's keep our fingers crossed for many years of storm free hurricane seasons!
